Girls basketball playoffs: Dawson Co. knocks off 6-3A champion Adairsville; Union advances in 2A

ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. — Abby Slaton poured in 22 points to lead the Dawson County girls to a 59-28 win over Region 6-3A champion Adairsville on the road on Wednesday in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.

Slaton had 20 points in the second half, including five 3-pointers. Kindra Coker added 12 points, all on 3-pointers, for the Lady Tigers, who came into the game as the No. 4 seed from Region 7-3A.

Dawson County next will travel to Hart County on Friday in the Sweet 16.


UNION COUNTY 62,
LANDMARK CHRISTIAN 35

The Lady Panthers held Landmark to just 10 first-half points while rolling to a huge win at home in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.

Union County (17-11) led 11-5 after the first quarter and took a 34-10 lead into the break. The Lady Panthers cruised from there, outscoring Landmark 28-25 in the second half.

Ariel McCarter also scored her 1,000th point for Union County in the victory.

Union County next will travel to Murray County on Friday in the second round.
