The Sautee Nacoochee Community Association will soon hold a fundraiser to support the White County Food Pantry on March 4.
The annual Empty Bowl luncheon at the Sautee Nacoochee Center’s Community Hall partners with local potters, restaurants and other businesses to serve lunch to those who donate money to the food pantry. The event will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
This year’s menu will include soup, cornbread, and other items from area restaurants such as Bigg Daddy’s Restaurant & Tavern, Clyde’s Table & Tavern, Elohee Retreat Center, Fenders Diner, Ingles Market, Jumpin’ Goat Coffee Roasters, Mully’s Nacoochee Grill, Nora Mill Granary, North Georgia Barbecue, the Old Sautee Store & Market, Rib Country, Unicoi Preserves and Sheilah Welsch.
In 2023, contributions given at the door totaled to over $3,200 for the food pantry. This year’s event will be held in memory of Nancy Duggan, who organized the luncheon for years until her death in December 2023. Duggan was a clay artist who encouraged other potters to create and donate the bowls that are used at the event each year.
The association will also hold a fundraising event on February 23 through its Empty Bowls Cozies Workshop. During the workshop, participants will make microwavable cozies that will be sold at the luncheon. More information on that event can be found here.
Those attending Empty Bowls are asked to consider donating other items needed by the food pantry such as soap, deodorant, toilet paper, toothpaste and brushes and laundry detergent.
