The Hall County School Board approved Superintendent Will Schofield’s recommendation to name Laurie Hitzgues the first Principal of Everwood Elementary School Monday.
Everwood Elementary School will combine Oakwood Elementary and McEver Arts Academy, which will both close at the end of the 2024-2025 school year.
Hitzgues currently serves as the Principal of McEver Arts Academy, where she was named to the role in April 2024. She shared that as she prepares to take on the position, she and Oakwood Elementary Principal Jeremy Boleman will collaborate to bring the two schools together.
“I am super excited to have this opportunity,” Hitzgues said. “ These two great communities are going to be coming together to create one community, and I look forward to just working with everybody. We have a lot of work to do in the next few days, weeks, months.”
Hitzgues joined Hall County Schools in 2015 from Jackson County where she served as an Assistant Principal. She was named Co-Principal of World Language Academy Elementary before being appointed as the Principal of World Language Academy Middle School in 2018. She also previously served as an elementary school teacher in Broward County, Florida, and Jackson County, Georgia.
“I am committed to making sure that every voice is heard at both schools,” Hitzgues said. “I just want to make sure that we're building the best community possible at Everwood Elementary, where we can all work together, and we can create an environment where our children can grow, where they can explore and where they can reach their fullest potential.”
Everwood Elementary will open in the fall of 2025.
