Residents of Habersham County are being advised to verify the legitimacy of parking tickets before taking action to pay them.
The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office said not all parking tickets are legitimate, and residents can verify by contacting the law enforcement agency listed on the ticket or the city or county clerk of court.
“Do not use the contact information on the ticket, as it could be fake. Research the phone number yourself so you know it’s legitimate,” sheriff’s office officials said on Facebook.
Officials said a red flag is a ticket with no law enforcement agency or an unfamiliar agency listed.
Contact local law enforcement for help before responding to a suspicious ticket.
All tickets are turned in to the appropriate clerk of the court’s office for court purposes.
