Northeast Georgia Physicians Group has added a new cardiothoracic surgeon.

Northeast Georgia Health System announced last week that Matthew Janko, MD has joined NGPG's Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery center.

Janko comes to NGPG from Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. A release from NGHS says his main clinical interests include coronary artery surgery, aortic surgery and lung cancer surgery. He also offers robotic surgery through keyhole incisions.

"I was attracted to NGPG and Georgia Heart Institute because they are both part of Northeast Georgia Health System, which is one of only two systems in Georgia that offers robotic heart surgery," Janko said. "It combines those advancements with the feel of a community hospital that treats every person like an individual."

Janko earned his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts and completed an internship in General Sugery through Harvard Medical School, according to a release from NGHS. He also completed a residency in Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy along with a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio.
