A runway at Gainesville’s Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport will continue to be temporarily closed until Monday as the city finishes its taxiway overlay project.
“This is a great and much-needed improvement to our field,” Airport Manager Lisa Poole said.
Runway 11/29 has reopened since the project started last month, but the closure of runway 5/23 has been extended through Monday until 8 p.m.
Starting on Monday, both runways will be open and taxiways will be closed in necessary areas.
The project includes paving parallel taxiways and upgraded connectors.
“The City appreciates the public’s cooperation and understanding of what it takes to accomplish these projects,” Poole said.
The work on the project is weather permitting.
