Deer hunting firearms season is set to open on October 19 and continue into early January of next year.
The season opens NEXT Saturday according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) Wildlife Resources Division (WRD).
“We are shaping up for a fantastic deer season,” state deer biologist for the WRD Charlie Killmaster said. “Hunter success has increased across much of the state and the number of mature bucks hunters are bringing home is at an all-time high.”
During last year’s season, roughly 180,000 hunters harvested around 240,000 deer in the state.
The DNR reminds Georgia hunters that they may use centerfire only, .22-cal or larger.
They also remind residents that the state allows hunters to harvest up to 10 antlerless deer and no more than two antlered deer.
Hunters must also have licenses, which can be purchased here.
Most hunters in the state will see the season end on Jan. 12.
