By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

Hall County and Gainesville City Schools reported increased SAT scores for the class of 2024.

The average score for Georgia public schools was calculated at 1030, while the national average was at 995, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

The Hall County School District announced Sept.27 that the system saw 748 SAT test takers with a mean score of 1049. The highest performing schools in the district included North Hall High School, with an average score of 1094, Johnson High School with a mean of 1053 and Flowery Branch High School students scoring roughly 1050 points on the SAT.

The HCSD ranks 37 out of 169 school systems in Georgia, a list that only includes schools with 15 or more students who took the standardized test.

“We celebrate our students for their commitment and hard work, and we extend our gratitude to the teachers, leaders and support staff who laid the groundwork for making these scores possible,”  Hall County Schools' Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, Kevin Bales, said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Gainesville City Schools reported the class of 2024 increased the overall SAT scores in the district from 955 to 987.

GCSS Superintendent Jeremy Williams said the scores included a 10-point increase in Reading and Writing, and a 20-point increase in Math.

“Gainesville City School System is proud to offer the SAT to all of our students during the school day,” Williams said in a release. “Many of our students face barriers to taking the SAT on the weekend, and our commitment to equity and accessibility is our top priority.”
