A woman was arrested on several charges after an hours-long standoff Friday afternoon in South Gwinnett County.
The Gwinnett County Police Department said in a press release that Shawndia Rogers, 39, of Grayson, was charged with aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer and obstruction following the incident in Grayson.
The agency said the incident initially began as a domestic call at about 1:30 p.m. at a nearby Tractor Supply store where shots were fired. The incident involved a man and Rogers. The man fled the scene on foot while Rogers drove off in a white passenger car. The man was later arrested, but his name was not released. No one was injured in that initial incident.
While officers were investigating the incident, Rogers returned to the scene in a different vehicle. Officers approached her vehicle on the passenger side and told her she was being detained.
"She began to resist, and officers deployed their taser, striking her multiple times," the release said. "One officer attempted to grab her from within the passenger side, and she drove off, dragging the officer who was partially inside the car."
The officer suffered minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital.
Rogers fled in her vehicle to a home on Winding Down Way in Grayson, where she barricaded herself inside with her four children. Three of the children were minors while one was a young adult.
The woman made multiple threats to shoot at officers. Police said she was armed with at least one firearm. The Gwinnett County SWAT Team was activated as a result.
After several hours of negotiations, Rogers exited her front door shortly before 6 p.m. and was arrested.
She was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated following the earlier Taser deployment. The children were released to the custody of their father.
Rogers was booked at the Gwinnett County Jail shortly after 8 p.m.
