Atlanta Police release new details on murder suspect arrested in Gainesville

Atlanta Police have released more details on a murder suspect who was arrested Wednesday in Gainesville.

The agency said in a press release that Anthony Hightower, 47, of Riverdale, was wanted in connection with a murder that happened on Constitution Road off Moreland Avenue in South Atlanta on Dec. 28. 

Atlanta Police responded to an apartment at that location on Dec. 28 and found a man dead inside with a gunshot wound. 

Hightower was charged with murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The Gainesville Police Department arrested Hightower after a traffic stop around 3 p.m. near Jesse Jewell Parkway and Prior Street. The Hall County Sheriff's Office was also on scene to assist. 

Authorities were not injured during the incident.

Hightower was transported to the Hall County Jail and will be extradited to the Fulton County Jail.
