Georgia Heart Institute launches Resistant Hypertension Center in Gainesville

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter
The Georgia Heart Institute recently launched its new Resistant Hypertension Center in Gainesville.

The center provides those with high blood pressure that isn’t improving through medication the option for specialized treatment with trained experts.

“ The Resistant Hypertension Center was founded to provide specialized care for patients who have not been able to achieve the target blood pressure- usually below 130/80 mmHg- after taking three or more blood pressure medications,” Sanjay Lall, MD, a cardiologist with the Georgia Heart Institute and medical director of the Resistant Hypertension Center, said.

Unchecked high blood pressure raises the risk of cardiac events and heart disease, according to a release from the institute.

High blood pressure can also cause kidney injury, which can require dialysis, and potentially damage vision.

Some patients who have other medical conditions such as sleep apnea, chronic kidney disease, renal artery stenosis, or hormonal abnormalities, may experience difficulty getting their blood pressure back to a normal level using common blood pressure medications.

“We collaborate with experts in other specialties including nephrology, endocrinology, sleep medicine, and vascular surgeons to ensure coordinated care for each patient,” Dr.Lall said. “ The goal of our program is to find out the right therapies to bring your blood pressure under control while delivering the highest level of care to support your long-term heart health and wellbeing.”

The Resistant Hypertension Center only treats patients who have been referred by their primary care provider or specialist.

The center is located in the Georgia Heart Institute offices at 200 S. Enota Dr. NE, Suite 100, Gainesville GA, 30501.
