Basketball: GHS-Hab Central, EHall-EaFo highlight Saturday action

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

Only three games on the schedule for Saturday involve region showdowns, but each could have implications down the road.

Gainesville opens Region 8-6A play, traveling to Mt. Airy. Tip-off for the girls' game is set for 4 p.m., with the boys to follow. Both Gainesville teams struggled during non-region play, while the Habersham girls won their opener earlier in the week. The Habersham boys lost to No. 2 Shiloh.

East Hall heads to East Forsyth in a huge Region 8-4A North showdown. Both boys' teams are tied with Cherokee Bluff atop the subregion standings, and the winner will be alone in first place heading into next week.

And Towns County also will be in action, playing host to Warren County in Region 8-A Division 2. The Indians (9-4, 4-0 Region 8-A Division 2) are tied with Greene County atop the standings, while Warren County (9-4, 2-2 Region 8-A Division 2) sits in fifth place but has won four straight.

In other compelling non-region matchups, Jefferson travels to Dawson County while Lakeview Academy heads to Athens Christian.
