Suspect arrested in robbery at Wells Fargo bank in Gainesville

By Austin Eller News Director

Authorities have arrested a Gainesville man in connection with Tuesday morning's robbery at the Wells Fargo bank on Browns Bridge Road.

The Gainesville Police Department said in a press release that Abel Aguilar, 26, of Gainesville, was being held in the Hall County jail on robbery, theft and theft by taking motor vehicle charges.

Aguilar was arrested in Gwinnett County several hours after he robbed the bank at about 10:30 a.m. at 1368 Browns Bridge Road. Aguilar was able to flee from the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash after handing a teller a note demanding money.

Police determined that Aguilar had previously stolen a van in Gainesville and used that vehicle to flee from the Wells Fargo. He was arrested a short time later in Gwinnett County after attempting to flee from Suwanee authorities.

“The collaboration by multiple agencies from across the region to bring this suspect to custody was a driving force in this investigation," Gainesville Police Chief Jay Parrish said. "This shows the dedication and partnerships our law enforcement have across North Georgia to protect our communities."

Several agencies assisted in the case, including the Hall County Sheriff's Office, Jefferson Police, Commerce Police, Suwanee Police and Gwinnett County Police.
