Football: White County takes down Dawson County

By AccessWDUN Staff

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. – In a big 7-3A showdown, it was White County that found themselves on the winning side, defeating Dawson County 24-14 Friday night at Tiger Stadium.

The Warriors were first to score as Tripp Nix found Isaiah Whitlow for a 50-yard touchdown just three minutes in for an early 7-0 lead. Dawson County answered midway through the second quarter on a 51-yard pass from Preston Bannister to Sawyer Bearden to tie things up. Three minutes later, Ryan Fowler found paydirt on a 10-yard rushing score to retake the lead for White County, 14-7.

After a field goal for White County in the third period, Fowler found the endzone again on the first play of the fourth quarter on an 8-yard run to take a 24-7 lead. Bannister and Bearden hooked up again for another 51-yard touchdown pass just moments later, but that was as close as the Tigers could get.

Fowler had 29 touches for 197 yards and two scores to lead the Warriors offensively, while Bearden caught five of Bannister's six completions for 152 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

White County will hit the road again next week to take on Wesleyan, while the Tigers will travel to Pickens.
