City of Lawrenceville completes slip ramp to Northside Hospital Gwinnett

The City of Lawrenceville and the Georgia Department of Transportation recently announced the completion of a slip ramp from Ga. 316 eastbound to Northside Hospital Gwinnett.

According to a press release from the city, the project has been underway since July 2022.

The project adds a separate exit lane, also known as a slip ramp, from Ga. 316 eastbound at SR 120, providing direct access to Northside Hospital Gwinnett. The ramp opened on Wednesday.

"Northside Hospital Gwinnett has been an excellent community partner with the City of Lawrenceville," City Manager Chuck Warbington said. "We appreciate their leadership's willingness to entertain our suggestion to implement a slip ramp concept during their hospital campus renovations. Ensuring convenient access to quality healthcare is a crucial element for every community. This project has accomplished that objective while also averting further congestion on Pike Street."

Lawrenceville worked with CHA Consulting, Inc. as the designer, Ohmshive Construction, LLC as the contractor, and Atlas as the construction manager. The project cost was $2,144,586 and included 0.41 miles of grading, curb and gutter, sidewalk drainage and asphalt paving.

“One of the key challenges in healthcare today is access, whether it is the ability to see a physician or obtain hospital services.  The slip lane entrance to Northside Hospital Gwinnett will provide “ease of access” to the many services Northside Hospital Gwinnett offers,” said Jay Dennard, Chief Operating Officer of Northside Hospital Duluth and Vice President of Physician Service for Northside Gwinnett System. “Additionally, the slip ramp will improve safety, reduce travel congestion, and minimize travel barriers.  We are so thankful to the leadership of both the City of Lawrenceville and the Georgia Department of Transportation in their partnership of this crucial project that assists Northside Hospital Gwinnett in providing access to quality healthcare for those we are privileged to serve.”

GDOT also recently announced a $5.9 million project to install a median on Duluth Highway east of Ga. 316. A start date has not been announced for the project.

This project will also work in tandem with the GDOT median project on Pike Street,” said Warbington. "The combination of both of these projects will significantly reduce congestion and approve safety to commuters in the area.”
