GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The Red Elephants left no doubt Friday night as Gainesville opened up 8-6A play with a 70-6 rout of Apalachee at City Park.
Gainesville opened the game by seeing Eric Hart return the opening kickoff for a score, which was followed up shortly after by Gavin Hall's 5-yard touchdown that doubled the lead. Baxter Wright then hit Sky Niblett for a 33-yard touchdown, and the Red Elephants never looked back, leading 63-0 by halftime.
Hall finished with just 21 rushing yards, but two of his four touches were touchdowns. Wright was 5-for-6 passing for 127 yards and three touchdowns in limited action.
The Red Elephants will have next week off before hosting Lanier at City Park.
