The Arts Council expands fall events and programs

The Gainesville-based Arts Council recently announced it will expand its lineup of fall events and activities with program partners and community collaborations.
 
“We are very excited to offer a diverse lineup of performances and exhibitions to appeal to a broad set of musical and artistic interests,” said Pamela Williams-Lime, executive director, in a press release. “With support and sponsorship from local businesses, we can offer free admission to some events, like Oktoberfest and the Artist Educator Exhibit, and affordable ticket prices for other events such as the Dancing Dream – ABBA Tribute. Our goal is to continue to engage with all members of our community through these diverse offerings.”
 
Dancing Dream – ABBA Tribute Band will wrap up the Peach State Bank & Trust Summer Music Series will be on Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. on the lawn at the Smithgall Arts Center. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets or reserve a table. The Branch House Food Truck will be available with their selection of wings and BBQ.
 
One-hour outdoor yoga sessions will be offered on Wednesday evenings in September and October by instructor Becky Martin for $10 per person. All proceeds will benefit the Knox Martin Foundation for Brain Cancer Research to support their mission to fund innovative research in aggressive brain cancers. 
 
The Arts Council will host the 2023 Artist Educator Exhibit from Sept. 8 through Oct. 6 featuring artwork by local teachers. Exhibition hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Opening Reception will be held on Sept. 8 at 5 p.m. This exhibition is free and open to the public.
 
Oktoberfest returns this fall, for the second year, with live music, family activities, contests, food trucks, and a biergarten from 12 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30. Admission is free and will include a variety of activities for all ages. The Arts Council has partnered with Downtown Drafts to offer this community event and sponsors include Mincey Marble, Northeast Georgia Health System, and Lawson Air Conditioning and Plumbing.
