JEFFERSON, Ga. — Natalie Beck drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to lift Jefferson to a thrilling 7-6 win over Oconee County on Monday night.
It was the seventh straight win for the Lady Dragons (8-1, 4-0 Region 8-5A), who will jump back into region play on Tuesday, playing host to Heritage-Conyers. Jefferson leads Winder-Barrow (5-4, 3-1 Region 8-5A) by one-half game and those teams will meet on Thursday in Winder.
Against Oconee County, it was a back-and-forth battle as Oconee County scored a run in the first but Jefferson answered with four in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Jenna Rapp. The Lady Dragons extended the lead to 5-1 in the fourth.
But the Lady Warriors scored five times in the sixth to reclaim the lead. Jefferson tied it in the bottom of the inning before Beck’s walk-off RBI single.
Victoria Phagan got the win for Jefferson, pitching the final five innings, surrendering five runs on five hits and three walks. She struck out two and retired the final four Oconee County batters.
