CUMMING, Ga. — The Gainesville girls volleyball team split a pair matches against Class 7A teams on Tuesday on the road.
The Lady Red Elephants opened with a sweep of Duluth (25-10, 25-16) but was swept by host West Forsyth 25-12, 25-14 in the second match.
Gainesville was paced by Avery Lindsey with 16 assists, 3 aces, and 3 digs. Kamila Guerrero added 2 aces and 3 digs, Lily Clay had an ace and 6 digs, Molly Williams contributed with an ace, 7 assists, and 5 digs, and Prentice McGarvey had 4 aces and 14 digs for the Lady Red Elephants.
Hannah Stewart added 8 kills and a block, Maddie Hinshaw had a kill and three digs, and Madison added 2 kills and a dig for Gainesville. Mercy Rico had 3 kills, Taylor Reid have 3 kills and a block, Kyndall Butler had an ace, 9 kills, and 9 digs, and Kathy Huynh had 6 kills for the Lady Red Elephants.
Gainesville next will play host on Thursday to the Pool Play portion of the 2023 Hall County Championship.
CHESTATEE SWEEPS, LAKEVIEW SPLITS TRI-MATCH
Chestatee swept a tri-match with Lakeview Academy and Georgia Force.
The Lady War Eagles (8-3) beat Georgia Force 25-10, 25-7 before knocking off the Lady Lions 25-14, 25-15.
The Lady Lions ran their win streak to four straight after beating Georgia Force 25-11, 25-22 on Tuesday.
But they fell to Chestatee in the second match.
In the two matches, Lakeview (7-5) was led by Addie Gilmer with 21 assists, Maggy Rogers with 11 kills, and Taliah Gaither with 9 kills. Makena Ginn had 3 digs and 5 aces and Kinley Owenby scored on 5 aces in the opening match.
Lakeview and Chestatee both will take part again in the Hall County Tournament on Thursday at Gainesville.
