Lawrenceville man arrested after damaging 30 vehicles

A Lawrenceville man has been arrested for 28 counts of Criminal Damage to Property after driving his vehicle through multiple yards in a neighborhood in Duluth Monday afternoon. 
 
The Gwinnett Police Department said in a press release that officers received a call at about 2:45 p.m. reporting Patrick Humes, 37, was driving through the yards of several houses in the Berkeley Hills Estates neighborhood and doing donuts. Residents in the area began sharing videos online of the Mercedes G500 Humes was driving as it smashed into cars in driveways. Some residents reported hearing gunshots.  However, no evidence of Humes using a gun was found. 
 
The suspect fled the neighborhood before officers arrived on scene. Once they arrived, authorities took reports from 28 victims. They found a total of 30 cars were damaged along with other harm done to the properties. 
 
Two hours after the incident, the Mercedes G500 was found abandoned at a tire repair shop four miles from the neighborhood. Officers located Humes at a McDonalds restaurant next to the tire shop and arrested him. 
 
The department says it believes Humans may have been suffering a mental health crisis at the time, though the exact motive for damaging so many vehicles is not known.
