By Logan Landers Anchor/Reporter

The Northeast Georgia History Center is hosting its first Homeschool Day of the school year which will detail the founding of the Georgia colony.

Homeschool Day will take place on Thursday, August 24 from 10 AM until 1 PM.

Visitors will learn about the Georgia colony’s early history through activity stations and demonstrations.

Some of the activity stations and demonstrations include a live blacksmithing demonstration, kid-friendly loom weaving, religious life in the colony, an open-fire cooking demonstration and a Kids Scavenger Hunt of the exhibits.

In addition, they will also get to meet General James Oglethorpe and Mary Musgrove, who are portrayed by professional living history interpreters.

Oglethorpe will start the event with a program at 10 AM & Musgrove will greet audiences with a program at 12 PM.

“This is a great way to introduce visitors of all ages to the lives, experiences, challenges, and successes of the Georgia colony because they get to meet historic characters, see and touch artifacts and reproduction items, ask questions of knowledgeable interpreters, and better understand the diverse cultures and beliefs of the people who lived in the colony and on the Creek lands,” Interim Executive Director Libba Beaucham says.

Online registration is required for guaranteed entrance.

Walk-in admission is accepted as long as the museum does not reach maximum capacity.
