A shooting on the north side of Jefferson late Friday night resulted in a male victim later dying of his injuries at an area hospital.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says Jefferson Police have requested the Bureau's assistance in investigating the shooting death of Mateo Gomez.
The GBI was notified of the shooting shortly before 11 p.m. Friday, and were told that Gomez had apparently been shot near the intersection of U.S. 129 BUS and Storey Lane.
That location is near Sunshine Self Storage and Faith Baptist Church of Jefferson.
"Upon arrival, officers found Mateo Gomez unconscious from his injuries," said Nelly Miles, the Director of the GBI's Office of Public & Governmental Affairs late Saturday evening. "Gomez was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia where he died as a result of his injuries."
