COMMERCE, Ga. – In a rematch of a close game a year ago, Commerce repeated the result with a 21-19 win over Southside Christian Friday night.
Southside got on the board first with 3:16 to play in the opening quarter with a 6-yard rushing score, but the Tigers answered just before the quarter break with a Jaiden Daniels 2-yard run to take a 7-6 lead. Commerce doubled its lead with 3:34 to play until halftime on another Daniels 2-yard run that was set up by a 36-yard sprint from Jacari Huff.
Southside answered with just over 30 seconds to play until halftime on a 10-yard pass, but the two-point conversion was no good, allowing the Tigers to carry a 14-12 lead into halftime.
Daniels punched it in again, this time on a 36-yard scamper to extend the lead to 21-12. The Sabres responded with an impressive drive that cut the lead to 21-19, but Commerce handled their business to bleed the clock out and secure the win.
The Tigers will head to Murphy (NC) next week for an out-of-state battle.
