GAINESVILLE, Ga. — North Hall pulled off what most thought was impossible in late July.
Pulling in a veteran head coach in late July is almost unheard of in high school athletics. Well, North Hall athletic director Sam Borg and principal Billy Wells worked their magic.
On Friday, White County girls head coach Jarvis Davenport was named the new boys coach at North Hall. He was 96-85 at White County, leading the Lady Warriors to six straight state playoff appearances.
"Coach Davenport is a high character winner that will lead our guys with excitement and a passion for the game," Borg said. "This is a dream come true for North Hall."
The job came open earlier this month when Miles Kendall resigned after three years at the helm.
Davenport is no stranger to Hall County basketball, having played at East Hall in the 90s. He began coaching with the Lady Vikings in 1998 and remained with Allen Pritchett until 2003 when he joined the East Hall boys staff under then-coach Seth Vining and Joe Dix, who took over for Vining in 2004.
While at East Hall, Davenport helped the Vikings to two state championships (2003 & 2005), three semifinals and quarterfinals.
In 2016, Davenport was hired as the girls head coach at White County. He guided the Lady Warriors to two Sweet 16 appearances and was named Region 7-4A Coach of the Year in 2018.
"It's exciting to be welcomed into a hard-working community that isn't afraid to do the hard work behind the scenes," Davenport said. "My whole life, North Hall athletics has been filled with guys who maximize their potential, play for the love of the game and have a never say die attitude."
