Gwinnett County commissioners acted on two projects on the north side of the county at their meeting this past week.
A release from the county said commissioners approved a water main installation in the Hoschton area and have applied for a grant that could bring new equipment to a Duluth park.
The water main in Hoschton is set to be installed along a 1.5-mile stretch of Hog Mountain Road between Mineral Springs Road and Jim Moore Road. The project will also include three check valves to create a new rock quarry pressure zone.
No timetable has been given for when the work will take place, but county officials said they hope the new main will minimize water main breaks in the area moving forward.
Commissioners also applied for a grant that would go towards new playground equipment at a pair of parks in the county, including Shorty Howell Park on Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth.
The grant the county applied for is the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The project for the two parks combined is estimated to cost $1 million, but the grant would pay $500,000 of the cost if awarded.
County officials said the current playground equipment at both Shorty Howell Park and Best Friend Park in Norcross is more than two decades old.
