NGMC Gainesville, Barrow gain high acclaim for emergency care

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

Patients in Gainesville and Winder can trust they are receiving some of the best, most comprehensive care at Northeast Georgia Medical Center while in an emergency.

NGMC's Barrow and Gainesville locations are among the first hospitals in Georgia to be awarded the 2023 Lantern Award by the Emergency Nurses Association.

A release from the NGMC communications office says the Lantern Award recognizes emergency departments that demonstrate exceptional and innovative performance in leadership, practice, education, and research.

Angela Gary, executive director of trauma and emergency services at NGMC said, “It’s wonderful to have the hard work and dedication of our physicians, staff, and leadership team recognized, but that’s not why they do what they do. They bring their best every day because they want every patient to recover quickly and return home, happy and healthy.”

Also, the emergency departments at NGMC Gainesville and Lumpkin hospitals were recently accredited by the American College of Emergency Physicians in Pain and Addiction Care. It recognizes emergency departments with a comprehensive program to provide optimal care for patients suffering from pain and addiction using progressive treatment, training and resources.
