A Banks County house fire that broke out early Thursday morning left a Homer residence with "moderate damage."

Firefighters were called to the residence on Damascus Road just before 12:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 call regarding a possible structure fire.

"Upon arrival units found a single-family residence with smoke showing," said Banks County Fire/EMS Chief Steve Nichols. "The fire was located and confined to a rear storage room and back wall."

Nichols said an unnamed number of residents were home at the time of the fire, but were able to escape without injury.

"The cause of the fire has been listed as accidental, with an electrical short in a dryer connection not being able to be ruled out," Nichols said.

The fire, which caused what Nichols called "moderate damage" to the home, was said to have been fully extinguished by 1:16 a.m.
