UPDATE: Fire destroys a Habersham County home overnight

UPDATE:

 According to Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore, the cause of the fire is still undetermined but several dogs perished. 

The homeowner and one dog escaped the blaze and the occupant did not suffer any injuries. 

Authorities were dispatched to the 2,500-square-foot home on Sherwood Drive just outside Clarkesville at 1:04 a.m.

Units from Habersham County Emergency Services, Clarkesville Fire Department and Demorest Fire Department responded and fought the fire until 4:30 a.m.

An investigation by State fire investigators and the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office into the fire is ongoing and if you have information please contact Georgia Arson Control Hotline at 1 (800) 282-5804.

Authorities say the fire has not been ruled an arson as of yet. 

As of 6:52 a.m. Friday:

A fire visible for more than a mile destroyed a home in Clarkesville overnight.

Habersham E-911 received a call about the fire just after 1:00 Friday morning. 

Clarkesville City, Habersham County and several surrounding fire safety units responded to the site to discover a fully involved hosue fire coming from inside the home on Sherwood Drive .

According to  a release from Habersham County spokesman Rob Moore the firefighting effort continued until after 4:30 a.m. with the cause of the fire under investigation.

The homeowner escaped safely but lost all possessions.  No injuries have been reported.
