An SUV crashed into the Captain D’s location on Pearl Nix Parkway Tuesday afternoon after the driver had what Gainesville police described as a “possible seizure.”
Emergency crews responded to the incident at approximately 1 p.m. to reports that a Ford Escape had crashed through the external wall of Captain D’s and came to a rest in the dining area, according to Gainesville Police Lieutenant Kevin Holbrook.
One adult male patron inside the restaurant received superficial wounds due to debris and glass that were thrown during the crash. The adult male driving the Ford Escape sustained injuries and was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in stable condition.
Officials believe the driver may have suffered from a possible seizure prior to the crash, ultimately leading him to leave the roadway.
“We're very fortunate, especially given the time that this incident occurred that the dining room was not full of people as the vehicle was fully lodged inside the building,” Holbrook said.
