Lumpkin County authorities searching for suspect following theft of items at graveyards

By Austin Eller News Director

The Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office is hoping the public will come forward with information after a series of recent thefts at church graveyards in the area.

According to a social media video from Sheriff Stacy Jarrard, the agency was recently contacted by several churches in the community who said their graveyards were missing various items.

"Such as flowers, wind chimes, solar lights and some other decorative items that have been placed on loved ones' grave sites," Jarrard said in the video.

Anyone with information on the thefts should dial (706) 300-6648.

"Any information that you have could be something useful that we could put together and maybe make contact with who it is that's doing this," Jarrard said.

Jarrard reiterated that items placed on grave sites are personal property and removing them from the site is considered theft.
