Habersham County drowning victim identified as Cornelia boy

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources released Sunday morning the name of the boy who drowned Saturday after at Lake Russell in Habersham County.
 
Mark McKinnon, public affairs officer with the Georgia DNR Law Enforcement Division, said the victim was Brian Ramirez, 12, of Cornelia.

A juvenile drowned in the swimming area of Lake Russell in Habersham County Saturday afternoon.
 
According to a press release from the county, officials received a call at 4:20 p.m. that an individual disappeared while swimming in the U.S. Forest Service lake.
 
Habersham County Emergency Services, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and Cornelia Fire Department responded to the incident.
 
The victim was located in the designated swimming area in approximately ten feet of water and was immediately administered medical assistance.
 
Emergency services transported the victim to Mt. Airy Town Hall where they were handed off to a medical helicopter.
 
The flight crew of AirLife Georgia 14 reportedly attempted to revive the victim and were unsuccessful.
 
The juvenile's name has not been released.
