Banks County firefighter pays ultimate sacrifice rescuing swimmers in Florida beach waters

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

A Banks County Firefighter has paid the ultimate price in rescuing swimmers while away in Florida.

The Banks County Facebook page post late on Thursday, June 15 said that Fireman Richie Alford lost his life while rescuing two distressed swimmers in Panama City Beach.

The swimmers were reportedly caught in a rip current, when Alford succumbed to the conditions, and could not return to shore.

The Banks County Fire and EMS adds that they ask everyone to keep Richie's family and friends in prayers.
