Young Harris College leaders named to regional association positions

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Two members of Young Harris College's leadership team have been named to positions in the Appalachian College Association.

School President Dr. Drew Van Horn was elected to the association's Executive Committee, with provost Dr. Jason Pierce being elected as chairman of the Teaching and Learning Committee and to the Executive Committee of the ACA Council of Chief Academic Officers.

The elections were done at the ACA's annual meeting last month at Tusculum University in Greeneville, Tennessee. The meeting includes college presidents and other officers to address issues being faced by schools in the region including the North Georgia mountains along with parts of Tennessee, North Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia.

Pierce said he's excited to assume the role with the association.

“The students, faculty, and staff of Young Harris benefit tremendously from the programming and support of the Appalachian College Association,” Pierce said. “I am proud to have been associated with the ACA for over twenty years, and I look forward to serving in this new role.”
