Gainesville City Council votes to approve expansion of Downtown Dining District

By Hamilton Keener Anchor / Reporter

The Gainesville City Council voted Tuesday, June 6 to approve the proposed expansion of the Downtown Dining District, including the areas around Main Street in Midland.

The dining district is an area in downtown Gainesville where customers can carry alcohol in an open container.

“It's basically an expansion of the downtown dining district from the southern end,” City Manager Bryan Lackey said. “Right now, it ends on High Street or where NoFo brewery is going in.”

The expanded borders include businesses such as Blackstrap, Remedy Distillery and Inked Pig.

The Gainesville city council approved an expansion in September 2022 which saw the boundary bolstered from the Greenway to the middle of Midtown.
