Gainesville police officials say a mental health crisis was the cause of heavy law enforcement presence that shut down Main Street at the downtown square for around an hour Thursday afternoon.
Gainesville Police Sgt. Jessica Van said authorities were called to the scene in response to an adult male possibly experiencing a crisis.
"The mental health clinician team responded and was able to intervene with a safe outcome for those involved," Van said.
Main Street was re-opened around 4:00 p.m.
