A Gainesville man was arrested Wednesday by Hall County Sheriff's Deputies after he allegedly held a woman against her will for more than a week earlier in May.

According to B.J. Williams, public information officer with the Hall County Sheriff's Office, Dustin Ray York, 31, allegedly held a Gainesville woman, 27, against her will at a home on Cross Street between May 5 and May 13.

A relative of the victim requested a welfare check on May 13 after they were unable to get in touch with the victim. The victim came out of the home when deputies responded to the scene. She told authorities she had met York in April and the two became involved in a relationship. However, York allegedly became violent shortly after.

York is accused of refusing to allow the victim to leave the home at any time over the weeklong period.

"He threatened her and threatened to hurt her family if she did leave," Williams said. "We understand that he also struck her multiple times, he choked her, and at one point he attempted to stab her, according to the findings of our investigation."

Williams said deputies did observe visual injuries on the victim, such as bruising, but the victim refused medical treatment.

Warrants were issued for York's arrest as a result of the investigation, and he was jailed on Wednesday.

York was charged with false imprisonment and aggravated assault; both of which are felonies. Additionally, he's charged with battery under the Family Violence Act and criminal damage to property. York also faces probation violation charges.

York is being held in the Hall County Jail without bond.
