ATLANTA — Despite using numerous starters and having several key position players miss significant time barely a month into the 2023 season, the Atlanta Braves open a quick two-game series with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday with Major League Baseball's biggest division lead.
Atlanta (24-11) leads the New York Mets (17-18) by seven full games and the Miami Marlins (17-19) by 7 1/2 games in the NL East heading into Tuesday's matchup with Boston (21-15). The Red Sox are among the hottest teams in the league, having won eight of their last nine after a dismal beginning to the 2023 campaign.
The Tampa Bay Rays (29-7) lead the Baltimore Orioles (22-13) by 6 1/2 games in the AL East following Monday's games.
The Braves have won 10 of their last 13 overall, while the Mets, Marlins, and Philadelphia Phillies all have played under. 500 over that same stretch.
After the two games with Boston, Atlanta will have Thursday off before beginning a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday in Toronto.
