UNG, CGC set to host NCAA Div II women's South Regional

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — The University of North Georgia has partnered with the Greater Gainesville Sports Alliance (GGSA) and is set to serve as hosts of the 2023 NCAA Division II Women's Golf South Regional on May 8-10 at Chattahoochee Golf Club.

The event marks the second consecutive of three years that NCAA championship golf will take place at Chattahoochee Golf Club. Last year, the women's national championship was contested at CGC and the 2024 men's South/Southeast Regional will be on site next year.

"Being able to leverage our community partnerships with the GGSA allows us to create a best-in-class NCAA championship experience for the student-athletes making their way to Gainesville next week," stated Lee Glenn, UNG's Senior Associate Athletic Director, External Operations. "Beginning Monday, Chattahoochee Golf Club will be home to some of the country's best NCAA Division II women's golfers for the next few days and we are looking forward to showcasing their talents to the local community."

UNG's Maddie Ananthasane is the second seeded individual in the tournament and will tee off at 8:40 a.m. on Monday.

The 12 teams set to convene on Gainesville to content for a regional title are Lynn, Nova Southeastern, Anderson, Rollins, Tampa, Lee, Limestone, Barry, Flagler, Wingate, Lander and UNC Pembroke.

Eleven of the 12 teams in the tournament are ranked nationally by Golfstat, including four in the top 10 alone. Lynn is ranked No. 1, Nova Southeastern is No. 3, Anderson is at No. 5, and Rollins is No. 8. This regional has produced 18 national champions and 14 runners-up in the 22-year history of the championship.

The top five finishing teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from the South Regional will advance to the finals, May 16-20 at Fox Run Golf Course in Eureka, Missouri. The finals will be hosted by University Missouri-St. Louis.
