A Gwinnett County man is in jail in Towns County accused of supplying drugs to a three-county area in both Georgia and North Carolina.

In a social media post, Towns County Sheriff's Office officials announced the arrest of Alphonso Terrell Cloud, age 39 of Lawrenceville, following a traffic stop on Georgia 76 at Georgia 288 near Hiawassee Monday.

During the traffic stop, authorities said a K-9 alerted on the vehicle and deputies found a large amount of methamphetamine laced with fentanyl as well as raw fentanyl. Cloud was arrested at the scene.

Sheriff's Office officials said their investigators had been looking into a known drug supplier in an area encompassing Towns County as well as nearby Clay County and Cherokee County in North Carolina. They said they believe the drugs confiscated at the scene were going to be taken to dealers in the area.

Cloud remains in the Towns County Detention Center without bond. He faces a list of charges including possession and trafficking meth and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
