Charges are now pending after a crash that critically injured a moped driver near Flowery Branch High School early Thursday morning.
Hall County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer B.J. Williams said the wreck happened just before 5:45 a.m. when the moped driver, Christopher Lee Powell, age 36 of Flowery Branch, approached the intersection of Hog Mountain Road and Credit Drive.
"Mr. Powell was stopped on Credit Drive and he was preparing to turn onto Hog Mountain Road," Williams said. "As he was sitting there, another driver in a pick-up truck, William Emory Olstead of Cleveland, was turning left from Hog Mountain onto Credit Drive. As he turned, he turned into the wrong lane, where Powell's vehicle was stopped and he struck Mr. Powell."
Powell was taken to a nearby hospital where remains in critical condition as of Friday afternoon according to Williams. Sheriff's office officials are continuing to investigate the crash and Williams said charges are pending against Olstead.
Traffic on Hog Mountain Road was impacted for around an hour and a half.
