A Hall County kindergartner is reportedly OK after being hit by a school bus in Gainesville Wednesday morning.

Hall County Schools Director of Communications Stan Lewis said the young girl was running after the bus after missing her stop and was hit in the head by the rear of the bus as it started to move and turned towards its next stop. The driver was reportedly unaware that the child was behind the bus.

"We had a parent that was running late getting their child to the bus stop. They missed the stop, so she was following the bus," Lewis said. "When the bus pulled up to the next stop, the parent stopped her car and the child got out of the car to catch the bus."

The incident happened at the intersection of Dogwood Circle and Williams Street. The driver turned around and came back to the scene when they heard the child had been hit.

"EMT's checked the child out on the scene and she was fine, she was OK and she was released to her parents," Lewis said. "We're just extremely grateful that this young lady is OK."

Lewis said the principal of Lyman Hall Elementary School, where the child is a student, came to the scene along with Hall County Schools Superintendent Will Schofield.

The Georgia State Patrol investigated the accident and Lewis said the bus driver was not cited.
