Thousands of residents in Northeast Georgia are set to receive energy from a new solar project in the southwest corner of the state.
Sawnee EMC is receiving 10 percent of the energy produced by the recently contstructed Clay County Solar Project, according to a release Tuesday. The energy from the 106-megawatt project has been purchased by Green Power EMC, which is sharing it among the state's 29 electric membership cooperatives.
Sawnee EMC covers residents in several Northeast Georgia counties, with most being in Forsyth County.
"The addition of the Clay Solar Project will enable us to serve our members efficiently and economically while meeting the reliability goals that we support,” Sawnee EMC President and CEO Michael Goodroe said.
