White County CERT Program graduates eight from basic training

By Sydney Hencil Anchor/Reporter
White County Public Safety’s Emergency Management Division and Community Emergency Response Team Program graduated a class of eight community members Wednesday from CERT Basic Training.

The ceremony was held at the White County Senior Center. The CERT program trains volunteers from the community to aid in disaster and unusual events.  During the 10-week course, the graduates learned the appropriate response to man-made and natural incidents through hands-on practice and realistic exercises.

Director of Public Safety for White County, David Murphy, said in a press release that CERT is a “huge asset in our response to natural and man-made disasters.”  He encouraged the graduates to specialize in one of the teams comprising the CERT Program.

The eight CERT Graduates are as follows:
  • Damen Blackgrave
  • Brandy Cooper
  • Linda Garrett
  • Shane Harper
  • Diane May
  • Joseph McKinniss
  • Gabriella Gammons
  • Christopher Moore
