White County Fire Services graduates 17 students from first EMT school

White County Office of Public Safety's Fire Services Division recently graduated 17 students from its first-ever Emergency Medical Technician School.

A press release from White County Government said the division held a ceremony on Thursday at Cleveland Worship Center in Cleveland. The students graduating from the class have completed 220 hours of classroom instruction, 36 hours of clinical training, and completed the Georgia EMS and Trauma governed Psychomotor Exam.

The students who graduated are now eligible to test for the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Certification.

The school began in October 2022, and was hosted at Truett McConnell University. The class was led by Firefighter/Paramedic Shad Sosebee, under the direction of Fire Services Training Captain Lanier Swafford. Battalion Chief Josh Taylor assisted the class along with many other fire and EMS professionals.

The majority of the graduates were White County firefighters, but Dawson County Emergency Services, Gainesville Fire Department and Union County Fire Department also had participants in the class.

“I consider this a major accomplishment for each of these graduates," Sosebee said. "They have been hard at work since October and their efforts are already paying off. We are pleased to have a 100% pass rate for the Psychomotor Exams. Now the students will begin testing for National Registry.”
