DAHLONEGA, Ga. — The Lakeview Academy boys golf team are GIAA Region 4 champions.

The Lions bested George Walton Academy by 11 strokes to capture their first-ever region championship on Monday at Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega.

"Our guys played well today," Lakeview coach Tyler Sanders said. "We definitely didn’t play our best at times but found a way to put enough together to earn a region championship.

"It’s a great stepping stone for the program as well. Over the last three years, each individual has improved, and today was a culmination of that effort."

Chandler Lovell was the cream of the crop among the field, winning the individual crown with a tournament-low 74.

"Chandler played great today outside of two tough holes on the back," Sanders said. "It was great to see him earn an individual championship because he’s been close a few times in the last couple of years. He’s an incredible young man, our team leader, and works as hard as anyone in our area to improve his game."

Tanner Stephens and Carter Kontur both turned in a 78 on the day and were named to the All-Region team.

The Lions will travel to Thomasville on April 24 to compete for the GIAA championship at Glen Aven Country Club.

"Our guys are thrilled with the win, but we will be right back to work tomorrow as we get ready for state on April 24," Sanders said.
