An unidentified driver who fled from a Lumpkin County traffic stop remains at large.

The fleeing driver left Lumpkin County and ran into White County as the officer continued the pursuit.  The driver finally wrecked their vehicle north of Helen.

The Georgia State Patrol said a tan 2011 Dodge Charger was traveling north on GA 75 in White County Sunday at about 6:30 p.m., actively fleeing from the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office deputy.  A GSP news release said while fleeing, the driver of the Dodge Charger failed to maintain their lane of travel, crossed the centerline, and struck a silver 2016 Ford F-250 truck pulling a camper.

The accident happened on Highway 75 north of Helen at Tray Mountain Road. The incident shut down the roadway for about three hours.

After impact with the truck, the driver of the Dodge Charger fled on foot

According to the State Patrol, there were no injuries as a result of the crash, and the fleeing driver was not apprehended.

The Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office is following-up on identifying the driver. No details have been released by Lumpkin County authorities about how the chase began.
