Georgia gas price average jumps 15 cents in past week

Georgia's average gas prices jumped 15 cents per gallon over the last week.

Monday morning's report from AAA showed the average price for a gallon of regular in the state is now $3.38. That price is 13 cents higher than the same time last month.

AAA Spokeswoman Montrae Waiters said rising oil prices are to blame.

“In response to OPEC’s announcement last week crude oil rose over $80 a barrel,” Waiters said. “This has led to the price of oil stabilizing for now, but the cost of oil accounts for more than 50% of what we pay at the pump, so Georgians may not catch a break at the pump any time soon.”

Prices in Northeast Georgia are slightly lower than the state average. The average price per gallon in Hall and Gwinnett counties was $3.34 as of Monday morning. The cheapest prices in the region are in Hart County at an average of $3.23 per gallon.

Statewide, the cheapest average prices are in Murray County in Northwest Georgia at $3.21 while the most expensive are in Ben Hill County in South Georgia at an average of $3.65 per gallon.

Georgia prices are still lower than the national average, which is currently $3.60 per gallon.
