Hall County Sheriff’s deputies were called Monday afternoon to Primera Iglesia Bautista Hispana off Harmony Street in Gainesville after an employee heard gunshots at the church, according to officials.

“At this point of our investigation, it does look like there was a single bullet among those gunshots she heard that entered the back of the church building, travelled through the building, and hit a glass door and broke it,” Spokeswoman B.J. Williams with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were called to the scene around 3:45 p.m. and when they arrived, they began an initial investigation. Deputies recovered a single shell casing at the scene; however, the church had no cameras outside the building, so no surveillance footage could be reviewed, according to Williams.

“We’re very early into the investigations, but the good news is nobody was injured as a result of this gunshot being fired,” she said. “Whether [the gun was shot] purposefully to hit the church or not, it certainly was a dangerous situation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hall County Sheriff’s Office at 911 or by reaching dispatch at the non-emergency line at 770-536-8812.
