Boys basketball: Former GHS coach Graham takes West Hall job

OAKWOOD, Ga. — Former Gainesville boys basketball coach Chuck Graham is back on the sidelines.

Less than a month after Gainesville decided to go in a different direction, Graham is West Hall's new head boys basketball coach, athletic director David Wagner announced on Wednesday.

“I am beyond excited to be joining the Spartan family as head basketball coach,” Graham said. “I would like to thank Dr. Hathcock and coach Wagner for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I look forward to establishing new relationships with players and the opportunity to build champions on and off the court.”

Graham takes over for Bobby Pless, who stepped down last month.

“We are excited to welcome Chuck Graham as the next head boys basketball coach at West Hall High School," Wagner said. “His knowledge of basketball and his experience as a player and a coach made him an easy selection to lead our program.”

Graham spent a decade at Gainesville, five as an assistant under Benjie Wood and five as head coach.

Graham took over the Gainesville program in 2018, guiding Big Red to three playoff appearances, two first-round and one quarterfinal, and was 70-63 in five seasons. The Red Elephants failed to make the playoffs in the last two seasons.

The Spartans finished last season 12-14.
