Georgia State Patrol identifies woman killed in Poplar Springs Road crash

The Georgia State Patrol has identified the victim of a fatal vehicle crash Thursday as Sherry Ann Hewell, 52, of Gainesville.

According to information provided by the GSP, Timothy Wayne Holbrooks, 62, of Murrayville, was charged with Homicide by Vehicle (2nd Degree) and Following Too Closely.

As of 6:00 a.m. Friday:

One person is dead after a crash involving four vehicles, including a dump truck, on Poplar Springs Road in southeast Hall County Thursday.

According to a report from the Georgia State Patrol, the wreck happened just before 3:00 p.m. when a Pontiac sedan that was stopped while trying to turn left onto Cane Crossing Drive close to Georgia 60 was hit from behind by a dump truck. The Pontiac then went into the opposite lane where it was hit by two other oncoming vehicles.

The driver of the Pontiac was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville and later pronounced dead. The driver of one of the other vehicles the Pontiac struck was also injured and hospitalized, but no one else, including the dump truck driver, was injured.

The names of those involved have not been released and the crash is still under investigation. Hall County Sheriff's Office officials said the scene left Poplar Springs Road near the Candler Compactor Site shut down for more than two hours Thursday.
